This session describes the AHA definition of ideal cardiovascular health and present disparities in stroke risk factors and ideal cardiovascular health data from the long-standing, multi-racial/ethnic Northern Manhattan study.

This session presents the scientific basis for stroke interventions, disparities in stroke mortality, stroke risk factors, and stroke treatment all in relation to EMS and the pre-hospital phase.

This session features epidemiology of stroke in women, acute stroke and stroke prevention in women, and will introduce the Florida-Puerto Rico Collaboration to Reduce Stroke Disparities for Women.

Dr. Tatjana Rundek, Principal Investigator of the FL-PR CReSD Data Management and Biostatistics Core, discusses several topics regarding stroke in women such as risk factors, existing disparities, and prevention.

Intracerebral Hemorrhage – A Focus on Disparities (29.20 minutes)
This session presents the epidemiology of intracerebral hemorrhage, as well as risk factors, pathophysiology of acute bleeding, and general acute management guidelines, all as related to race-ethnic disparities.

Dr. Sebastian Koch, Co-Investigator of the FL-PR CReSD Research and Education Training Core, reviews the incidence, risk factors and prevention of intracerebral hemorrhage and discusses identified disparities in the management and delivery of treatment.

Stroke Burden and Disparities (28.01 minutes)
This session reviews the public health burden of stroke in the United States, temporal trends in stroke mortality and stroke incidence in the US; describes stroke disparities by race and ethnicity, including African Americans and Hispanic Americans; and discusses disparities in stroke subtypes: infarct subtypes as well as intra-cerebral hemorrhage.
