Carolina Marinovic Gutierrez, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Department of Neurology in the Stroke Division. She is a neuroscientist by training and currently serves as the Associate Director for the Florida Stroke Registry. She is also Co-I in Florida’s PaulCoverdell Acute Stroke Program. Dr Gutierrez has participated in and contributed to the development of the Florida Stroke Registry for more than ten years, with some of her most meaningful contributions involving successful advocacy for stroke policy in Florida, such as the 2017 legislation establishing a Florida stroke registry. Gutierrez has a long record of service in public health, including having served as Logistics Director for Project Medishare at the University of Miami, deploying volunteer medical professionals and relief efforts after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Dr Gutierrez served as Deputy Director and scientific/community liaison in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, developing and managing large-scale, federally-funded emergency response programs for southern Louisiana. Dr Gutierrez is now a recognized public health leader for stroke in Florida, having published extensively and presenting nationally.
