Maintaining Stroke Systems of Care During this Time of Crisis
Tuesday, April 28, 2020 | 2:00PM-3:00PM EST
We are pleased to announce a new weekly video series featuring brief conversations between FSR partners who are at the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope the topics discussed will be engaging and informative, and will highlight the amazing work our stakeholders are doing at this unprecedented time. Check out our first episode, featuring Dr. Victor Del Brutto and Stroke Coordinator Selina Ancheta, here.
We are excited to announce a new initiative focused on highlighting the many ways FSR members give back to their communities. This is an unprecedented time and we at the FSR want to shine a light on the positive contributions you and your colleagues make to the world.
Do you volunteer for a cause you care about? Have a coworker who goes above and beyond for their community? Tell us about it!
To kick things off, we are recognizing our FSR team member Sarah Roberts, who is currently volunteering with the organization Medical Supply Drive.
As healthcare systems and communities contend with the COVID-19 pandemic, timely and safe provision of stroke care remains a priority for the Florida Stroke Registry and our partners. To help keep our colleagues and stakeholders up-to-date on the latest resources related to the intersection of stroke care and COVID-19, we are pleased to share the following:
The American Heart Association (AHA) wants patients to know that even though many cities have ordered residents to avoid leaving their homes in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, people experiencing symptoms of stroke (e.g. facial drooping, arm weakness, slurred speech) should NOT delay calling 911 and seeking treatment. Waiting for symptoms to get worse can cause the stroke to become even more dangerous.
Bottom line: EMS and hospital staff need patients to call 911 as soon as potential stroke symptoms appear. Don’t wait!
